NPO successfully created its HbbTV portal in November 2011. The service is available through digital ether (Digitenne), satellite (Canal Digitaal), glass fibre operators (Glashart, KPN) and through a number of cable operators: UPC- part of Liberty Global , SKV Veendam, CAIWay, Delta and Cable Nord.Access to HbbTV is through the red button that gives information about current programs, enables the viewer to switch programs and offers the catch-up TV service called ‘Uitzending Gemist’.Using Uitzending Gemist on the TV is very easy, and in this way, the NPO supports the changing media demands by its viewers. A TV guide offers information on programs coming up, and viewers can listen to and view (visual radio) several radio stations. Recently we also launched NPO plus, a premium catch-up service for a monthly free.

Besides that NPO launched three HbbTV apps.

– NOS News app
Related items (video and text) showed during a live news episode and actual weather and traffic information provided via HbbTV. The related items are based on an analysis of subtitels (text service 888).
– WK app 2014
NPO launched a HbbTV WK app in June for the worldcup of 2014. Via HbbTV you got access during a football match to extra related content like information about the stadium, group positions, videohighlights (i.e. latest goal of a match).
– 3FM app
A popular radio station, called 3FM, created an own HbbTV app with music clips, a live stream combined with visual radio, a twitter and photo feed and information about DJ’s.
